WLC Guidelines

BUILDING HEIGHT

The mean roof height of the building shall be the average of roof eave and highest point of roof surface, except for roof with slope <= 10°, mean roof height is permitted to be taken as the roof eave height.

TYPE OF ENCLOSURE

1. Enclosed / Partially open building

Enclosed building: Total openings (windows / doors) in each wall shall be less than 4 sq.ft. or 1% of wall area. Partially open building: The building that doesn’t satisfy any of the other conditions.

2. Partially enclosed building

Total area of openings in a wall exceeds the sum of others openings in the building envelope by 10%, and the total area of openings in a wall exceeds 4 sq.ft. area or 1% of area of wall whichever is greater.

3. Open building

Each wall shall be at least 80% open.

LEAST HORIZONTAL DIMENSION

CASE A

Least horizontal dimension = B

CASE B

Least horizontal dimension = minimum of B1 & B2

Actual Height

ACTUAL HEIGHT IS THE HEIGHT OF OVERHEAD SLAB AT THE INTERMEDIATE STORY (HIGHLIGHTED BELOW) WHERE WIND LOADS CALCULATION IS REQUIRED.

Tributary Area

Fixed Window System

Wind Load Best Practices

Formula: Ta = w * h

Storefront / Multi Panel Doors / Curtain walls

Case A

Wind Load Best Practices

Condition: h > w max(w1, w2, w3)
Formula: Ta = min(w1, w2, w3) × h

Case B

Wind Load Best Practices

Condition: w > h max(h1, h2, h3)
Formula: Ta = min(h1, h2, h3) × w
