Guidelines

  • BUILDING HEIGHT

    The mean roof height of the building shall be the average of roof eve and highest point of roof surface, except for roof with slope <= 10°, mean roof height is permitted to be taken as the roof eve height.

  • TYPE OF ENCLOSURE

    1. Enclosed / Partially open building

    Enclosed building: Total openings (windows / doors) in each wall shall be less than 4 sq.ft. or 1% of wall area. Partially open building: The building that doesn’t satisfy any of the other conditions.

    2. Partially enclosed building

    Total area of openings in a wall exceeds the sum of others openings in the building envelope by 10%, AND the total area of openings in a wall exceeds 4 sq.ft. area or 1% of area of wall whichever is greater.

    3. Open building

    Each wall shall be atleast 80% open.

  • LEAST HORIZONTAL DIMENSION

  • RISK CATEGORY

    Category 1
    Buildings and others structures with low risk to human life on failure. Example: Agricultural facilities, temporary storage facilities, etc.
    Category 2
    Buildings and others structures that are not covered under risk category 1, 3 & 4. Example: small scale residential and commercial structures.
    Category 3
    Buildings and others structures with substantial risk to human life or day to day civilian life on failure. Example: small schools, day-care facilities, health care facilities, detention facilities, buildings with hazardous materials chemicals.
    Category 4
    Essential facilities whose failure may cause substantial hazard to the community. Example: hospitals, large health care facilities, water storage facilities, defence facilities, etc.
